I really want to lose some weight. If you have been with me for a while, you know that weight loss and getting healthy is something that is always on the table. Pun intended. 🙂
It seems that in this world, there is a constant battle between the options that surround us and healthy choices. I feel so often that I am sitting right there in the midst of the chaos. I am trying this diet, following that book, joining this club, or jumping on that bandwagon. And in the end, I am still “obese” and out of shape.

Can I get an AMEN? A HALLELUIA?
Am I preaching to the choir?
It seems that many of us struggle with our weight. With the social media image factory constantly putting out pictures of body types that don’t match or even come close to our own, it can be downright discouraging.
I’m right there with you my friend! And I have been. I’ve tried counting points with Weight Watchers. I’ve tried joining the Y and taking yoga classes. I’ve tried just making some healthy choices. I’ve tried Whole30 and Wheat Belly and a whole lot of other things. And I’m still here. All 162 pounds of me.
Truth is I have fluctuated between 155-173 pounds for the better part of the last ten years. Just up and down and up and down and up and down. But now I’m 52 years old and I have Favorite Pixie to think about. She is going to want Nana to run with her at the beach and climb a tree, and even just sit on the floor to play games with her.
I need to be able to move. I need to be strong, and I need my heart to be strong too! I really want to lose some weight!I need to be able to move. I need to be strong, and I need my heart to be strong too! I really want to lose some weight! Click To Tweet
Ok guys, you know I don’t promote things willy-nilly here. I do my research and I try things out before I share them with you. And I gotta tell you about noom.
noom is this behavioral modification/healthy weight/ healthy life/ healthy journey app. I know it sounds a little crazy right? But I’m telling you, it is working!
Let me show you a little of my journey. To start with, of course, you log your weight daily. This part is a no-brainer because, with any goal, there needs to be tracking in order to make adjustments or to measure your success.
Here is a screenshot from today of my weight loss graph. I have lost about 4 1/2 pounds in 3 weeks. Not the fastest weight loss journey I’ve ever been on, but I have to say there is so much more to it.
Sidenote: You can see that my “Big Goal” is 135 pounds. I have not seen that for at least 20 years, and I do realize it may not be possible, but I wanted to dream big. And I really want to make the lifestyle changes required to get there.
How noom works:
Every day I open up the app to this daily checklist. There is a place to log my weight, a place to log my food/calories, a place to count my steps and add any exercise I’m doing.
You might be saying, “Yah, yah, yah. This sounds like every other app available, and they are free!” But those are not the features that made me pull the trigger and purchase.
See the other things? Like #1 – Learn why you eat when you do. Or #6 – Treat yourself! This is where the real learning begins. Each of these links you to a less than 5-minute interactive read designed to teach you the psychology behind your weight loss journey. They are quick little nuggets of information that I am here to tell you are life-changing!
Let me give you an example of how noom is changing my life. Yesterday Big Jon, Favorite Baby and I went to this great little brewery in Madison, Alabama called Old Black Bear Brewery.
They are known for their burgers and the Taproom Burger was looking absolutely fabulous! Angus beef, over-easy egg, beautiful bacon, etc. And I really wanted it and was going to get one.
noom has taught me that I can make these decisions to eat whatever I want. I should make some choices that are treats to myself and all days will not be a super healthy success. I just get to deal with whatever consequence goes with it. And it’s all OK.
So I had decided to order it. I had decided that this was going to be one of those days that I treat myself and enjoy the burger because I can and I want to.
And then I thought… I bet I will be just as satisfied with a couple eggs and bacon breakfast. If I order that, then later today I won’t be frustrated with myself for overeating and I can have this yummy beer.
And guess what? I was satisfied. And happy. Yeah me!
You see I really want to lose some weight and this app is totally helping me relearn how I think about food! #ad Click To Tweet
Another thing that I am loving is the personal coach to check in with weekly about your goals and struggles. The coach guides you to figure out where you are having trouble and helps with an action plan.
Then there is my group. A small group of noomers that are in the same place I am on the journey. Learning the same little tidbits I am focussing on. And we have a group leader that helps guide the discussion by asking leading questions to encourage us.
Its a great little group of like-minded people invested in their own personal health journey who want to lose some weight. I love it! Real people with real struggles. I am totally all about that! You know, Real life. Real dreams. Real insight. Real purpose.
The truth is, weight loss and healthy living are a lifelong journey.
It’s all about making choices, right? And making the best possible choice in the moment. Previously I have tried to make choices about food and ultimately those choices would go awry.
When things would go wrong, I would bail on the whole program, feeling completely defeated. Or I would eat the whole pan of brownies just to get them out of the house so I wouldn’t have to deal with the temptation.
This is the first time that I feel not only in control of my choices, but I also feel in control of the consequences. I can plan and prepare to allow for “treats”. I can eat ONE cookie and leave the pan for another day. I can have a glass of wine and plan for a night out.
noom has been great for me and if you are looking to lose some weight, it just might be the thing for you! Check it out! I did the free 2-week trial to get started and I really recommend it. You can cancel after the 2 weeks if it isn’t as life-changing for you. 🙂 And I promise I will still be your friend!
