In this post: DIY Little Chair for Favorite Pixie
My Grandma was the queen of nursery rhymes. Ride Ride Ranke (a Scandinavian favorite) and Trot Trot to Boston were a few of my favorites. She read to me, sang to me, played on the floor with me. Grandma invested in my learning of all things, she fostered creativity in life, and she helped to shape my character.
When I grow up, I want to be just like her.

Grandma and me Circa 1966.
Do you remember this one?

First thing: Spray paint the entire chair
I used this great spray shelter by HomeRight and sprayed the entire little chair a glossy black.
Next: Cut out pictures and rhymes
I really wanted to fill this chair with Dick & Jane pictures so I set out to find some of these vintage readers on eBay. I found this to be quite difficult. Not only are these classics expensive, but they are also a little difficult to find.
Thus I expanded the search to include all types of vintage illustrations “of a certain kind.”
Instead of cutting out the images, I tore them. I wanted the edges to have a battered edge to them before I attached them to this DIY little chair.
Using Mod Podge, glue images and rhymes to chair
This part was fun. Finding the pictures that fit together, didn’t overlap too much, mixed colors and styles. Just keep gluing. Mod Podge is super easy to work with. Put a little on the chair, add the picture, then put more Mod Podge over it.
After the chair is covered, put several more coats of the Mod Podge to seal the finish. I think I did three coats.

This is so nice. I like when people fix old things giving new look.
I love what you did with a chair. Thanks for the idea!
