Yeah me! I’m on day 8 of the Whole30! Check out the top 5 reason I am choosing to get fit with Whole30! Woot woot!

If you have been following the blog for a bit, you probably know that I have been on a quest to get fit.
Recently I was chatting with Big K and she said, “You know, how we handle our health during this part of our lives is super important. People that work to stay healthy throughout their 50’s and 60’s general make it thru for many years. It’s the scary stuff that can happen in our 50’s and 60’s when we are not paying attention that cuts life short!”
Let’s just think about that for a bit.How I treat my body will determine how long I get to watch my warriors and their wives bloom into families.

It will determine if I get to be a Grandma if I get to watch Favorite Baby graduate from college, if I get to see Favorite Third’s TV show idea become a reality.
It will determine so many, many very important things.
This is serious stuff! And that got me thinking…. And then googling….. And then deciding I need to get fit with Whole30.
For the past month or so, I’ve been researching The Whole30. What attracted me to the program is the focus on fitness, energy, and health. All along I’ve been wanting to just feel better and be healthier. Being thinner is a bonus at this point in my life.
The Whole30 plan was designed by Melissa and Dallas Hartwig as a way to change people’s thoughts about their relationship with food. The entire program is laid out and explained in their book It Starts With Food. It is designed to change your life!
According to The Whole30 website:
“It will change the way you think about food, it will change your tastes, it will change your habits and your cravings. It could, quite possibly, change the emotional relationship you have with food, and with your body. It has the potential to change the way you eat for the rest of your life.”
I believe it.
So here is the real deal. The 5 reasons I’m choosing to embark on The Whole 30.
- I am the oldest living person on my branch of the family tree.
My Dad died in his 40’s, my mom in her 60’s. We have a history of heart and vascular disease and stroke. Being that I did not become a Grandma in my 40’s like my mom, I would like to be around for several more years and enjoy my future grandchildren!
- Big Jon and I have some labs that need improvement.
This program is about health. It’s about food – really good for you food. It’s about getting your body back to the way it was intended to be. It’s about feeling better and being better!
- I love well-defined boundaries.
After making the decision to do this, I consulted with Big Jon and Favorite Third since they both would need to come along on this journey with me. Favorite Third was not convinced that I could do this. Seriously, giving up Diet Coke? Along with dairy, grains, legumes, sweeteners etc. He didn’t think it was going to happen.
But I explained to him that I love rules. Give me some rules and I will follow them. Give me some boundaries, some guidelines and I am a happy girl.
And so far, it’s working! Hah!
- I believe that God created food for the purpose of our health.
Food has a purpose. Yes, it is enjoyable, tasty etc. But truly God has created food to nourish and feed our bodies. One of the things I like most about The Whole30 program is the focus on “Real Food.” Organic, non-chemically enhanced food that God created for our bodies. I feel better just knowing I’m putting good stuff in!
- There is an end to the madness and yet a plan for “Real Life”.
It’s for 30 days. That’s it. After that, I get to decide what to do next. If I hate it and want to return to my chemically induced state of health, I can.
But there is another option available also. There is reintroduction information on the website. How to transition to a less restrictive diet. Resources to help me. Plus, there is a new book out about the whole process called Food Freedom Forever.
It’s day 8 today.
That would be 8 days without Diet Coke.
8 days without sugar or sweeteners.
8 days without alcohol. (and you know how much I love my glass of wine before bed!)
8 days without dairy.
8 days without grains or legumes.
8 days of transition to fresh fruits and vegetables, ice tea and water, nuts and seeds, and organic meats.
