I adore this beautiful DIY floral mobile that I made for Favorite Pixie! It was such fun choosing the flowers to match the nursery, putting it all together, and I couldn’t believe how easy it was. 🙂 I’d love to share with y’all the creativity and fun of building your own floral wreath mobile for your very own delightful little one.
It may sound simple, but one of the most difficult parts of this DIY floral mobile was choosing the flowers. I waited for a week when they were 50% off at Hobby Lobby and then brought a small swatch of fabric and went to town in the floral department.
Here is what you will need:
- Flowers in multiple sizes – I also chose five large flowers to be the hanging portion of the mobile. Make sure to purchase enough smaller, filler type flowers
- Foam floral wreath – I used a 12″ wreath
- Hot glue gun
- Fishing line
- Ribbon
- I added a couple little butterflies, for cuteness sake 🙂
I’m not going to lie, the first trip I spent about $50 on flowers and supplies. After all, this is for Favorite Pixie. She deserves an absolutely beautiful mobile to gaze at while getting her diaper changed, right?
If you remember, Favorite Pixie’s nursery has a garden/butterfly theme with the most beautiful colors in the fabric. This fabric really allowed for a multitude of options for flower choices – blues, reds, oranges, yellows, creams. Honestly, almost anything goes with this fabric!
Step 1: Cut the Ribbon
Measure and cut three pieces of ribbon to use for hanging your mobile. Tie each one around the floral foam wreath. You don’t need to worry about the knots as they will be covered with flowers eventually. Note: I did not do this, but next time I would choose to also wrap the floral foam in the same ribbon. If I had wrapped it, I would have needed fewer flowers to make sure the foam was covered. This will help keep your cost down too.
Step 2: Attach the flowers
This was fun. I cut off the flower tips and stuck the wires into the floral foam. If the flower did not have a wire, I used the hot glue gun to attach the flowers. Mix up the sizes of the blooms so that your floral foam is mostly covered.
I wanted to be sure that Favorite Pixies’ mobile was pretty to look at from both above (Favorite Navy Wife and Favorite Second will have to look at it often – just think of all those diapers they will be changing!
Step 3: Cut and attach the fishing line
For this DIY floral mobile, I used 5 different blossoms to dangle down towards favorite pixie. I thought this would add some interest along with giving her some color and movement to reach for. I asked Favorite Third for a bit of fishing line and tied it around the wreath.
From each of them, tie on one of the larger blooms. I chose to put each one at a different level.
Truth be told. After I had used all of the flowers from the first trip to Hobby Lobby, I needed more! This time I just popped over to Walmart to get some of the cheapies to fill in. 🙂
I’m totally in love with this DIY floral mobile!
This floral wreath mobile was fairly easy and lots of fun to make. I will say, that I now understand why they go for over $100 on Etsy. In order to get enough good quality, beautiful flowers, you will probably spend a good $50-$75 on supplies alone. If you choose to wrap your floral foam with ribbon that will cut down the cost quite a bit.
I hope you will give this project a try. I think you could hang a floral wreath anywhere, not just in a nursery. There are so many options for colors, for flowers, the possibilities are endless. Have fun!
