Living in an apartment has really changed my attitude towards cleaning. I mean, honestly, Big Jon and I don’t make a very big mess and so Pledge wipes and Lysol wipes and any other kind of wipe have really become my go-to cleaners. Until now. Check out the most amazing DIY cleaning wipes I’ve ever created!

When the Warriors were babies I started making DIY baby wipes to keep up with the messes. As time went on I also began making DIY cleaning wipes to help with the daily bathroom issues. Boys!
Recently, I ran out of the Pledge wipes and was mentioning to Big K that my cleaning regiment was filled with a bunch of different kinds of wipes. Because I can. And it got me to thinking.
Is that really a good enough reason to become lazy, spend more money, and continue to use harsh chemicals in my home? I say not!
Introducing the most amazing DIY cleaning wipes!
(I sort of feel like one of the salesmen working out of a gypsy wagon :))
Step 1: Gather your supplies:
You will need a container that will hold 1/2 of a paper towel roll. I got mine at the dollar store, but you could try something like this one.
Paper towels – I like to use the select-a-size because it makes smaller wipes
Measuring cup – 2 cup
Knife and cutting board -do NOT use a serrated knife
Cleaner – I recommend Mrs. Meyers Clean Day
Step 2: Cut your paper towels.
Lay the paper towels on their side and cut them in half so you have 2 smaller rolls of towels. I use a very sharp big knife and just saw right through the towels.
Step 3: Pull out the cardboard center.
Pinch the cardboard center away from the towels and remove completely. Do the best you can not to remove any of the towels.
Step 4: Put towel roll into a container.
Again, I purchased mine at the dollar store. The most important thing is to find one tall enough to fit your 1/2 paper towel roll. Look for something that is a minimum of six inches high and 6 inches in diameter.
Step 5: Mix your cleaning solution.
I am super excited about this part. I am finally switching to a better cleaner! Yeah! Mrs. Meyer’s products are made with plant-derived ingredients and essential oils. And without a bunch of bad stuff.
So just take 2 cups of really hot water and drop in one capful (about 1 Tablespoon) of Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day. I got the Lemon Verbena scent. Go me!
Step 6: Pour the cleaning solution into the towels and cover.
Step 7: Wait.
Go watch your favorite show – I’m currently watching Blindspot on Hulu which is pretty fun. Or take the dogs for a walk, or just do a little happy dance for about 30 minutes.
You will be able to watch the cleaning solution “climb” up the paper towels.
When they are completely saturated you can see some condensation on the lid of the container.
Step 8: Pull wipes up thru the center and clean away!
Have fun cleaning with your new amazing DIY cleaning wipes! You can use them on all types of surfaces, like floors, counters, cupboards, walls and even bathrooms. I keep one under each bathroom sink so I can do a quick wipe down of the counter whenever it’s needed.
What is your favorite cleaning trick? Does it save you time? or Money? Or both? I would love to hear all about it in the comments.
