I have been diligently working in what I affectionately call “The Me Room”. Guys get a “mancave”. Some women have the “Her Garden Shed” I chose “The Me Room”. This room is all about me. Take a look at what I’ve come up with so far.
In the first update, I showed you the new paint and a bit of organization. I also left you with the following list I was planning to work on…
- Update Fan
- Paint futon frame
- Large area rug for floor
- Design and create a craft table
Closet doors Finish organizing shelves and files
Imagine my surprise when I checked the list and found I have only accomplished 3 of these items? In my defense, I have been pretty busy working on other things, working my day jobs, getting Favorite Baby off to school etc…. I know. Excuses. Excuses. Excuses.
Let’s take a good look at the list.
Update Fan – Interestingly enough I have really struggled with this one. The fan in this room is fine. It just doesn’t give off enough light for doing projects.
See those tiny bulbs. Well, I have tried numerous different shade ideas (think drum shade, string shade, glass boob light shade) and none of them allow the bulbs to give off enough light. Thus, there is no shade, and it STILL doesn’t give off enough light! Uggghhh.
I have decided to remove the fan and put up a new fixture. So that will have to wait for the next update post. Sorry to disappoint. 🙁
This was fun. This futon is actually a full sized mattress. Now, of course, I wanted to be extremely thrifty when recovering this so I began looking at sheets to sew into a duvet. I didn’t want to buy an entire sheet set when I only needed 2 flat sheets, but they were all so BORING!
Then, while killing time at the mall, I popped into Pottery Barn for some inspiration. And guess what? I found the perfect duvet on CLEARANCE! Woot Woot! Happy Dance! Check this out.
Isn’t it gorgeous? I love the color because it pulls from the wall color and the pretty organizational bins I purchased, remember?
Paint Futon Frame
Here is where I find I need to change things up. Because of the really cool cover, I’ve decided to leave the frame black for now. It goes well with the shelves and helps to balance the room.
Large Area Rug for Floor
Any suggestions here? I have looked EVERYWHERE for something to put on the floor. I absolutely love my color choices for the room, but I can’t seem to find a rug that will go well in the room. So this stays on the list.
Design and Create a Craft Table
Nope – not done yet.
These were a bear. First off, we had been storing the doors in the outdoor shed for the past few months so they needed cleaning. I just blew off the cobwebs and dust 🙂 Easy Peasy.
Next, Favorite Third Son had bought a paint sprayer for his boat this summer and I thought I would give it a whirl.
This particular kind of sprayer hooks up to an air compressor and uses gravity and the air to spray the paint.
It is very important to dilute your paint when using a sprayer or else it won’t spray. I learned this lesson the hard way. After 3 coats of paint, I quit. I couldn’t figure out the problem. I tried adjusting all of the adjustable knobs, but nothing seemed to be working. Turned out, my paint was not diluted enough. Duh…
I also learned that you need to move fairly slowly while you are painting because if you move too fast, the paint will not be applied evenly as you can see in the above picture.
Ultimately, Favorite Third came outside and finished the job by fixing the air compressor and making the proper adjustments to both the paint and the paint gun.
The jury is still out on how I feel about the paint sprayer gun.
But the finished doors? I love them 🙂
I distressed them a bit and added the cute black knobs. They are super cute.
Finish Organizing Shelves and Files
This was a bit of a project but I’m happy to say that the files are finally organized and I only need a few more cute bins for the shelves. (those things are expensive!!!) I promise to let you see the results in my next post.
There was also one other thing I did in the room. A cute little cabinet that Favorite Baby had made in wood class stores my sewing things. I decided to paint it to match the Mango Tango wall.
How cute is that?
Next time, I am going to tell you all about my very first influencer event that I attended at the brand new at home store in my area. It was so fun to meet people, learn about the store, and pick up some finishing touches for this room. I am looking forward to sharing it all with you next time!
